Great Home Staging Ideas That Get Your Home Sold Without Breaking the Bank
By Jason Paul
Are you getting ready to place your house on the market? Here are some great frugal tips to help you sell your house without breaking the bank. When I list a home, I always share these six easy tips so that my clients are not just listing their house, they are selling it!
- Clean the Inside Your House
A thorough vacuuming, dusting, and mopping will do wonders and will
dramatically improve the appearance of your house. This includes wiping down all of
your counter space and appliances as well as dusting light fixtures and fan blades. Don’t
forget the inside of your oven and microwave. (Yes, buyers will look inside.) Also, take
this opportunity to replace any light bulbs that are burned out. (Make sure that all the
bulbs in the bathroom vanities match. Otherwise, this could become an unwanted distraction
from an otherwise beautiful room.)
- Clean the Outside of Your House
It sounds so simple yet it is often overlooked. Make sure that your lawn is mowed, edged, and
that the hedges are trimmed. A fresh layer of mulch is also a great way to make your house
stand out. Remove any cobwebs from the front porch area and put a fresh coat of paint on to
make the entry to your house loo inviting. (A can of paint is not too expensive and will
dramatically increase the sale price of your house.) Power wash your sidewalks, front porch,
deck, and siding. (You probably know someone that owns one that would let you borrow it for a
day or two.)
- Depersonalize the Interior of Your House
Every home has family pictures on the walls. (Remember, that you are selling your
house now and you want the potential buyers to be able to imagine themselves in their
new home.) So it is to begin by packing those away, since you are going to be moving soon
anyway.
- Declutter Your House
Start off by making all of the beds every morning. This is an easy way to begin transforming your
house into a model home. Put things away every night before you go to bed, so that your house
is ready to be shown while you are at work. This will allow your house to look bright and open to
a buyer as they tour your home. If you have children this can be difficult with all of their toys. One
great idea is to buy a large plastic tub with a lid and have them put their toys in it every night
before they go to bed and placed in the garage. It is a simple fix and it really works.
- Staging Rooms in Your House
An easy rule of thumb to remember is that small rooms need small amounts of furniture
large rooms need large amounts of furniture. There is nothing worse for a buyer than
seeing a nice size bedroom with an enormous dresser or armoire in it that ruins the flow
in the room. Remove the extra furniture from your room and give it to charity or sell it.
You are going to want to buy new furniture for your new home anyway.
