The Parallels Between Being a Paramedic and Being a Realtor®
by Jason Paul

As a Paramedic in a 911 system for 19 years I have taken care of a countless number of patients. When you are called to a scene of an emergency your first priority is to find your patient and begin building a strong rapport and trust with them. After all, you are helping them at the worst time in their life and with their biggest emergency. You have to communicate and listen to the patient and take care of them appropriately as you transport them to the hospital. Upon arrival at the hospital, you turn their medical care over to the ER physician for further evaluation and treatment.

As a Realtor® the situation is almost identical. The first step is to find a client, and then begin to communicate/listen to them attentively, so that you can identify their real estate needs. By doing so, not only are you building trust, but you also are beginning to develop a strong rapport with your client. After all, the upcoming real estate transaction will most likely be the biggest transaction of their lives and they are looking to you for expertise, guidance and professionalism. It is easy to see that the steps shared between a Paramedic and a Realtor® are almost identical since in both situations you need to; meet your clients, build a strong rapport and trust, and take care of their needs until the operation is completed.

As I move into my new career as a Realtor®, I know that these aforementioned parallels in my skill set will positively increase the amount of trust and rapport that I will be able to gain from my clients. I know how stressful, difficult, and overwhelming it can be to purchase and/or sell your home. I have completed many real estate transactions in my life and I know that with a professional realtor® by your side it can make all the difference in the world. I treated everyone in the back of my medic unit like they were a family member, and I will do the same throughout my career as a Realtor®. Besides, how many other Realtors® do you know that could save your life? Talk to you soon.
